The Nursery (for Shannon)

After sharing the Decorative Pillows, I thought it would be good to show you where these little pillows sit.
We also had a new follower leave a comment:
"Shannon said... Hoping to get some nursery inspiration from you all! I'm your newest follower & almost 28 weeks pregnant!"
Thanks for your comment Shannon. Here are pictures of the nursery, and good luck with your baby and your nursery.
(I apologize that the pictures aren't the best, but that's what I could do for now. There's not too much light since it's snowing and because of the location of the window. Really, I'm working on getting a better camera.)
The color palette that I went with was a pale blue, a dark slate purple, and a light slate purple, with white furnishings and silver accents. I wanted a calm, cool, clean, light, breezy feel for the room. I know, typically, most don't use a blue for a little girl, but I did not want to do the room purple and this blue gave me exactly the feel I wanted.

Here are the pillows in their cozy little spot.
The crib.
The bedding was where I started. I found fabric first and then found paint to match. You can find paint in ANY color.
I did the crib bumper with Velcro straps to connect it to the crib instead of ties because I was going for a clean look.

I also decided to do the bumper in 2 equal pieces and have them connect in the middle. I connected them with a button and elastic. Again, going for a clean look.
The Glider I recovered the glider and ottoman. This was a little challenging to find fabric. After many fabric trips, I found this soft upholstery fabric on clearance!
Before: After:

Align CenterThis is the changing table and dresser.
I love how this dresser turned out!
It started out as this (below) but without legs. I added legs that I bought from Lowe's so it would be high enough for a changing table. Then added some left over baseboard to the bottom edge, to cover up the ugliness of the added legs and to give it a nice finish. Then some sanding and some purple paint. Oh, I removed the handles, painted them silver and slapped them back on. (The little end table between the glider and the crib is the same purple. Underneath is a storage bin for burp cloths.) And here it is in the closet. We have storage bins below for diapers, wipes and a hamper. And storage bins on the top shelf of the closet for blanket, bibs, nursing stuff and whatever else.
We took down the closet doors, put up a silver curtain rod and added two layers of curtain. The top is a patterned sheer and the second layer is just white. So we can still "close" the closet.
We also have sheer curtains for the window too.
Can you just feel the light breeze blowing through?!
So that's the Nursery for now. It still needs decorative finishes. Hopefully I can get around to those soon :)
Thanks for letting me share!

  3. Jess,
I traced the cushions for a pattern. I also used piping. After I covered the piping, I sewed the pieces I had cut, with the piping between, and then turned them right side out. (I left a side open so the I could turn it right side out and so I could put the cushion in.) Then I hand stitched the open side to close it. The previous cushions had little velcro straps connecting the the back and seat cushions to the glider. And the arm rest were connected by big snaps. I didn't use anything to connect the back and seat cushions because I haven't needed to. The arm rest cushions are just stapled to the chair underneath the seat cushion. I hope that helps. THanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!

  5. Thanks for the shout-out - ya'll are too cute! I posted a few photos of my nursery which is lacking progress, but I blame that on not knowing the gender of our little one. Is that allowed?

  9. Thanks for your nice comment on my blog!

What a great nursery! I love what you did with the crib bumper. I too made my daughters bedding, it feels so much more personal. And, what a great idea for the changing table! Not only do you get all that added space for storage but you can bring it up to the perfect highth for changing. Brilliant!
