Christmas Cupcake Stand

I saw this peppermint cupcake tower on HoneyBear Lane Blog and I knew I had to make one for our annual girls' night cocoa party. If you want to see MORE pictures of our cocoa party, click here.

These are the items I used to make my stand minus one plate and one candle stick. I decided after buying this all that it was too tall with 4 plates. I found all this stuff at Deseret Industries for only $8.

I loved how on HoneyBear Lane blog she used a square plate, so when I was shopping the thrift store I bought all different shaped plates.

Spray painting was a pain because the paint either pooled in the middle of the plate when the plate was flat or it dripped when the plate was on it's side.
I ended up painting over it again with a brush anyway.

This is my final product.
I decided I wanted stripes and polka dots also, that way I could use this stand for other occasions too.

I didn't have any vinyl on hand and I was making this very last minute, so I had to improvise.

I used a red pen and paper templates to mark where to paint and I painted all the red designs free hand with a foam brush and paint.

If you squint your eyes you won't see all the imperfections ;)

This is the stand in use.

A huge shout out to HoneyBear Lane for the idea, inspiration& tutorial! Thanks!!

  20. Yay! It turned out SO cute! Wanna hear a secret? I actually tried to do polka dots at first on one of my plates. I reverse cut out polka dots from my sticky paper and then spray painted. It didn't work though because I think I'd sprayed too many layers of paint so the paint started to crack and looked awful. Didn't ever once think to hand paint! Brilliant.
