Spring Banner Tutorial

Last month I had the opportunity to participate in the Retro Color Ribbon Design Challenge for May Arts Ribbon and this is the spring banner that I created.

And now for the tutorial...

First I cut a pennant template out of paper.

Then I used my template to cut the pennants out of fabric.

Next I ironed my pennants so they would be nice and crisp flat.

I then sewed strips of ribbon in random order on each pennant.

I searched my scraps of fabric for coordinating fabric to cut out letters & circles.
Before cutting the letters and circles I ironed on fusible webbing to the back of the fabric.
I printed out letters from my computer and placed them on top of my fabric to use as a template.

I cut out circles from coordinating fabric.  These also have fusible webbing on the back.

I ironed on the circles & letters to each pennant.
The fusible webbing makes the back of the circles and letters stick to the fabric without sewing.

Before sewing each pennant together I ironed fusible interfacing on the back of each pennant to help them lay flat.  Then I sewed the pom pom ribbon along the top edge of each pennant to connect them together.

Here is the final product with all the beautiful ribbon from May Arts Ribbon.

You can find all these ribbon pretties here.
