Using Wood Filler

Remember this post where I painted a sideboard/credenza?
Well, if you remember, I had it all completed except for the drawer handles.
I found some I liked that matched my cabinet handles, but unfortunately the holes in the drawer didn't match up with the handles.
Enter Latex Wood Filler... This little container was on clearance at Kmart for only $.99. Steal of a deal!! I started by filling each hole with latex wood filler until it was compacted inside. I made sure I had some extra coming out the front so I would have something to sand down. Once the filler was dry, I sanded it down. Then I wiped down the front of the drawer with a wipe, dried it & painted it again. Once I painted over it, you couldn't even tell there had been holes there previously :)
Next I marked my drawer, drilled new holes & attached my new handles. Love that wood filler!!
I'm still working on decorations for the top of it, but one thing at a time. I've still got a dress to sew, a birthday party to plan and girls camp next week. I better get busy!

Have you used a different kind of wood filler before? What's the biggest difference you saw that it was latex filler??

Came over from TipJunkie's link up party!

  4. Wow, turned out fabulous! I'm about to paint my bathroom vanity but haven't done anything like that before so am nervous about getting a nice, smooth finish the way you did on your sideboard. Very much appreciate the close up pics you took and giving info on the paint you used and the type of brush/roller. That's a big help to me. The hardware you chose looks fantastic with the piece. Very nice project!
