PTR Week 1: Upcycling

This is a little late in posting, but hey, better late than never!
Thanks to everyone who voted!
Everyone made such great projects and it's inspiring to see what people came up with, yet, really hard to vote for just one project.
I'm so excited to say that I had enough votes to move on to this week!! Yay!
(The person with the least amount of votes gets cut from Project Toddler Runway.)
Last week's challenge was upcycling and this was the project I made--a military inspired jacket from my Mother-in-Law's old blazer!
It was quite the process. I had a general idea of how I wanted it to look and so I set to work on it with just the idea in my head. There was a lot of adjusting and trying it on my daughter over and over again. She didn't particularly enjoy that part of it, but candy bribery helped the process.
By the time I finished everything on the jacket, minus the buttons, I couldn't' tell if it had turned out or not and I honestly was at the point of just scrapping it. So the next day I decided to work on something else. You know how you look at something for so long, you just need a break from it? I had a different project in mind and so I started working on that instead of finishing the jacket.
I guess I had a long enough break, because later that night I saw the jacket and I was in love with it! It just needed the right buttons and voila!

I also made the shirt and leggings as part of the same outfit. This tank was very easy and fun to make and I really enjoyed how fast the process was. I made it out of a white button up shirt from my scrap clothing pile.
This was another one of those projects that I had a general idea about how I wanted it to look and then just let it come together as I sewed. I'm planning on doing a tutorial for this one, but it may have to wait because I'm still working my project for week 2. I loved how this tank turned out--sweet, but still tailored. The leggings I made from the sleeves of a long sleeve t-shirt. It too, was a quick and easy project. This is also a future, hope to get to, tutorial :)
(These are the old things I used for my project: man's long sleeve t-shirt, man's button up white shirt and a women's blazer.)
Project Toddler Runway has been so much fun and I'm so glad that I get to participate! Here's hoping I get to stay another week! Remember that in just a few days it'll be time to vote again. The new challenge is, "Wear a flower in your hair".
I'm going for unpredictable. Maybe. Ahhh.......I'm still not finished with my project! I better go!
