Crayon Monograms

These are the gifts the kids are taking to their teachers this week for the last day of school.

I found this tutorial online over at Frugal Life Project & have been wanting an excuse to make it for some time now.

Instead of using white paper, we found cardstock in their teachers' favorite colors for the background.

I found a block font I liked in my word processing program on my computer & I printed a large outline of the letter along with their teachers' names (not a huge fan of my handwriting) directly on the colored cardstock.

I printed an outline of the letter on a white piece of paper, so we could use it as our practice sheet. TIP: I wouldn't skip this step because as you're cutting the crayons you'll get little flakes of crayons all over your paper, which will leave marks.:)

My daughter helped choose what colors she wanted to use and in what order she wanted them & I used my xacto knife to cut each crayon. She decided she only wanted to use the pointed end of the crayons on her letter and that was fine with me because we used the other ends on the other letter. As you can see, I wasn't too particular about lining up the "crayola" wording on the crayons on the W monogram.

We found this picture frame at Dollar Tree for $1 & we bought 3 boxes of crayons at Kmart for about $3.60.

For this letter, I used the other end of the crayons and I also lined up the "crayola" logo which gave it a totally different look.

I like them both & so do the kids. Lets hope their teachers do too :)

This is a way inexpensive project and a great one to let your children help with.
